This work presents a proposal to evaluate computerizing geotechnology learning at secondary schools and to generate the means for this evaluation. It involves cartography, remote sensing and geographic information systems, emphasizing environmental changes and use of current data. A central database with daily update will be accessed through computers in the schools. The resulting product evaluation for two schools in São José dos Campos, SP, will take place in association with teachers in the schools, and it should show the extent of this educational option utility and acceptance. Four spatial scales will be used: municipal, regional, continental and global. For example, land use will focus on temporal changes of vegetation and urban occupation; graphic simulations will present cases such as weather forecasts and vegetation fires. “Spring”, a public-domain GIS, will be used with some adjustments for this educational purpose. Geodem (Digital Geotechnology in Secondary Education) is the name of the prototype system, to be accessed by Internet or CD-ROM, which will facilitate the learning of dynamic processes in geography courses. The results should produce indicators about the incorporation of new technologies in the school curricula, also support the preparation of teachers and students in the information era. This work will generate, in an innovative way, a public-domain product to be used in the public and private educational institutions.
